At Cardiff Metropolitan University we not only have an enormous range of outstanding health and sports related courses to enrol on, but we also have first class training facilities and coaching available whilst studying on our sport & health sciences, management, education, art & design, technology and food industry courses across our three centrally located and easy to reach campuses.
For The National Running Show we will have the Podiatry and Performance Sports team available for lower limb assessments incorporating force plate analysis together with advice on injury prevention and rehabilitation. We have plenty of sports/running experience in our team. Dr Jane Lewis, Senior Lecturer and Research Lead in Podiatry, was a Welsh International lightweight rower for 5 years before turning to triathlon. She competed in European and World Triathlon Championships for GB as an Age Group athlete for four years. Our Director of Performance Sport, and a Welsh and GB international athlete in his own right, James Thie, will be on hand to answer any of your performance training questions along with two of our alumni international athletes, Tom Marshall and Ieuan Thomas who will share their studying and training experiences with you.
Tom is a Cardiff Met Sports Management Alumni, who went on to earn an MBA from the University of Tulsa on a Sports Scholarship. During his time at Cardiff Met, he formed an alliance with James Thie, and his track/ cross country career propelled from there. Tom went on to compete at both the Commonwealth Games, and the European Cross Country Championships, winning a gold in the mixed relays. He is also a sub 4 minute miler, and the Welsh record holder over the 1km. Ieuan is a Cardiff Met Sports Development Graduate and Steeplechaser who has competed in the last 3 major outdoor Track and Field Championships. He represented Great Britain at the 2017 World Championships and 2018 European Championships, and Team Wales at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, where he placed 7th. He is also a sub 4 minute miler, the only person to have achieved this feat indoors in Wales. Ieuan still trains using the Cardiff Met facilities under the guidance of Performance Director and Coach James Thie. Much of their success they put down to the culture and environment that they found themselves in during their time at Cardiff Met, where they found everything they needed to excel in his sport.
The guys will be available through-out the day on Saturday to share their experiences and give advice on achieving the very best out of yourself by training in the right way. They will also be doing some Q&A sessions from the stand throughout the day so please come along and ask that question you’ve always wanted an answer to.
Come along to the stand for demonstrations on self-management of plantar fasciitis, shin splints and Achilles tendinopathy, demonstrations on how to find out your foot type to help guide you to the right trainer for you, and how to avoid the dreaded blisters and black toe nails.
We will also have one of our student recruitment officers on hand to answer questions you might have on the courses we offer with prospectuses to take away and inspire you.
And if you get there early…….. we might even have some freebies waiting for you!!
