Elaine Swaby – Member Emancipated Run Crew (ERC).

My love for running began many years ago whilst at school. I ran short distances (5-10k) for many years and used running to support my well-being, for therapy and it gave me valuable thinking time. Running always seemed to make me feel good and free from life issues.
In 2021, following a cycling accident I broke my ankle in 3 places which resulted in having plates and screws inserted preventing me from running for one whole year.

I suffered many lows as a result of not being active, what I missed the most was not being able to run. Fast forward 1 year and I have just been given all clear to run, to say I’m elated by this is an understatement. Running for me has been an unbelievable outlet! Having the ability to run with members of ERC has been one of the most incredible experiences to date, the support from the group is second to none. Running with people who look like me and share the same passion is an absolute gift.

My running goals are to attend my first Park Run and complete a 10k by the end of 2022. I would also like to encourage more people of colour into joining running groups such ERC
