Iwan Thomas’ ‘400×400 challenge’ documentary to premiere on Run Show TV

Watch the exclusive premiere on Tuesday 23 November at 7pm

Running addicts across the country should save the date for Tuesday 23 November when they will be granted exclusive behind the scenes access to Olympic Champion Iwan Thomas’ epic 100-mile race against the clock. Dubbed his ‘400 x 400 challenge’, the run saw Thomas tackle 400 times the distance he is famed for conquering on the South Downs Way; racing the clock to finish within the 30-hour cut off, battling 3,800m of elevation and temperatures that peaked at 29 degrees. The documentary will exclusively premiere on Run Show TV, brought to you by the company behind multi-award winning National Running Show.

The documentary has been sponsored by Nikwax and produced by UK sport and outdoor photography and videography experts PH Balance who followed World Champion and Olympic medallist, Thomas on his challenge capturing all the highs and lows of the infamous Centurion South Downs Way 100. The race route begins with a 3.7 mile loop through Matterley Estate before joining the South Downs Way for the remaining 96.3 miles. Thomas took on the challenge to raise vital funds for Group B Strep Support, the world’s leading charity working to eradicate Group B Strep infection in babies.

Iwan commented: “This was the most brutal thing I have ever done. The temperatures made what should have been a difficult run almost impossible for me. Racing the clock, getting the phone call that Teddy had been taken to hospital and the sheer brutality of the course meant it was on of the hardest thing I have ever endured. I am delighted to share the raw reality of what this run cost me physically and emotionally and I hope that it has helped shine a light on Strep B and the money raised can help other families like ours.”

Thomas’ son Teddy was diagnosed with Group B Strep in 2018, an infection caused by streptococcal bacteria, which can lead to meningitis, pneumonia and sepsis, and spent the first ten days of his life in intensive care.

Available exclusively on Run Show TV on YouTube, the premiere will begin at 7pm GMT on Tuesday 23 November. Run Show TV is the brainchild of Raccoon Events, the company behind The National Running Show, in partnership with PH Balance and will play host to exclusive interviews and documentaries all intended to inspire and connect runners of all abilities from across the globe.
