At 46, I’m proof that it’s never too late to discover a passion for running. As a child and teenager, sport played a big part in my life, but like many people, work and everyday life gradually took over, and exercise became less of a priority.
Walking was my main form of activity for many years. As I approached my 43rd birthday, I decided it was time to improve my fitness. In June 2023, I started the Couch to 5K programme with one simple goal: to complete a 5K. At the time, I had no ambition to become a runner, I genuinely believed that reaching 5K would be enough.
After completing the programme, I began to wonder what else I was capable of. That single decision sparked a journey that has completely changed my life. Three years later, I’m training for my second marathon, I’m a proud and active member of my local running club, and running has become an important part of who I am.
I love encouraging others to believe in themselves, regardless of their age, experience or starting point. My journey has shown me that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things with consistency, determination and the courage to take that first step.
