Jonathan Albon

Jonathan started running in early 20’s. Moved to Norway in 2014 and began full time racing career. Self-coached and has training ethos as opposed to strict training plans. Concentrates on the enjoyment aspect.
‘All round’ athlete that enjoys cross training and adventures to keep fit.
50:50 summer season between obstacle racing and sky/trail running. Main training in the winter is ski touring, running and biking in the summer.
Typical training week winter – 12-15000m climb on skis, 1x strength session, 2x climbing sessions
Typical training week summer – 4000m climb running, 4000m climb cycling, 2-3x climbing sessions

Obstacle Course Racing
Running based sport where competitors are also required to complete obstacles such as: swimming, climbing, crawling, traversing, swinging, jumping etc.
Divided sport with both federated independent championships as well as branded companies offering their own championships (such as Spartan).

Skyrunning
Extreme form of mountain running where competitors are required to run on all types of terrain including extremely technical and exposed routes that can feature glacier crossings and sections of scrambling.
Consists of a world series races which offer points towards the final ranking, certain bonus races offer extra points increasing the competitiveness. In previous years Skyrunning has had several types of world series such as Extreme and Ultra.
Skyrunning world championships held every other year and features; classic, vertical kilometre and ultra-distances.

More mainstream trail and mountain running featuring trails and paths less technical than skyrunning.
Trail running World Championships organised by the International Trail Running Association (ITRA) which gives the opportunity to officially run for your country.
Selected to run for Great Britain in both the trail running and mountain running world championships.
