Laura Muir (born May 9, 1993)
One of Scotland and the UK’s most successful Middle-Distance athlete. Specialises in the 1500m, Laura is one of Britain’s most accomplished athletes, known for her fierce racing style, endurance, and tactical racing brain
With an Olympic silver medal and 5 European Championship gold medals to her name, Laura has cemented herself at the top of the ranks within British sporting royalty. Muir’s breakthrough came in 2016, when she broke the British 1500m record, previously held by Dame Kelly Holmes. The following year she took two gold medals at the European Championships in Belgrade. Laura has raised the bar in one of athletics’ blue-ribbon events, picking up accolades across the world, including a remarkable silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games, being twice crowned the Diamond League Champion and reaching multiple Global finals year on year.
Laura’s credentials go far beyond the confines of the athletics stadium. Having balanced the pressures of running track at the highest level with studying veterinary medicine at the University of Glasgow for seven years, she graduated as Doctor Laura Muir in the summer of 2018. Studying veterinary medicine was a lifelong ambition for Laura born out of her love of animals, but her practising career as a vet will be taking a back seat for the time being she does continue to play an active role in animal welfare as an ambassador for the SSPCA and the face of their annual Pound for Paws campaign.
