Hi everyone. I’m Tazneem aka Taz. My running journey started in April 2017. Prior to this I was never a runner. It’s fair to say I totally love running. I love the feeling of accomplishment it gives me, how it brings people together and the challenge it gives me.
As you can see, I run wearing a hijab. My mission is to show that wearing a hijab is not a barrier to being physically active. I want to encourage women to get outdoors and be active, in particular those women who for cultural reasons feel that they can’t be active because of how they dress. I’ve run distances of 5K, right through to a marathon so its most definitely not a barrier at all!
I’m a UKA Run leader as well as a Run Director for junior parkrun. I like my solo runs to unwind and have some me time, and I love my early morning runs to enjoy the peace and serenity before the rest of the world wakes up. I love running with my club too, the Handy Cross Runners. Joining a running club has opened up so many new friendships and its brought some amazing people into my life. The same can be said about parkrun, which is something I’m so passionate about, as it epitomises everything that is positive about the running community. The biggest reason I love running is that connects so many people of all walks of life. The running community, really is just that, a community, one that I’ve been welcomed in to with open arms.
Keep running and keep connecting. I look forward to meeting you all at one of the shows.
