20–21 Jan 2024 49 days to go! #RunShow Tickets

Matt Banthorpe

I’m 37 years old, married with two children. I started running 4 years ago as a way to lose weight. I have completed 1/2 marathons, trail marathons, and multiple Spartan races and also ran Europe’s Toughest Mudder last year in aid of Myeloma UK (a cancer of the blood which my father has) and raised £2000. I’m signed up for 2020 and hope to hit 40 miles in the 12 hours.

I started with couch to 5k, then park runs, then 1/2 marathons, OCR and marathons.
I’ve found a joy in pushing myself further than I thought I ever could, but what I never thought when I started was that I would be encouraging other people to get running or tackle an obstacle course race.
My two boys George (7) and Henry (4) are both running in Spartan Kids races to “be like Daddy” and my wife completed a 10k race for life in 2019.  I try and run 2 or 3 times a week as well as outdoor group PT to help with the OCR skills and overall strength and conditioning

Running has had a massive impact on my mental health. Whenever I’m feeling depressed I lace up my trainers and go out and disappear on the trails for a few hours.

See you guys out on the course!
