Steve Edwards

After running his first marathon at the age of 18 in 1981 and vowing never again!, Steve went on to achieve the official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for running 1000 official marathon races in the fastest average finish time of 3hrs 21min 47 sec for each one. Known by many in the UK running community as “The Godfather” of marathon running, Steve now aged 63 has accomplished many records & landmark achievements over the last 44 years which have resulted in him becoming one of the most successful multi marathon runners in the world.

Since achieving the 1000 marathons record, a short documentary film called ‘The Long Run’ was made about Steve’s achievement which can be viewed on You Tube. He’s still running, now very active on the Park Run circuit along with his wife Teresa, something they can both enjoy together. Many people on the running scene see Steve as an inspiration and role model for the sport on how ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things, his motto, ‘Never underestimate your potential, follow your dreams.”
